The Masterful Standard
To prevent pool-floating hazards and foundation flooding by performing catch-basin clearance and high-velocity slug-flush protocols on the property's drainage network, ensuring 100% conveyance of stormwater during peak-intensity rain events.

Begin the specialized Stormwater-Hydraulic-and-Structural-Safety-Audit by performing a Grate-Permeability-and-Conveyance-Analysis of all pool deck and area drains. The primary objective is to ensure that the drainage network can handle a Flash-Flood-Event without water topping the pool coping, as saturated soil around a pool shell can create Hydrostatic-Lift that can literally Float a 50,000-pound pool out of the ground, causing catastrophic cracking to the shell and plumbing. Start by performing the Surface-Permeability-Audit: inspect the slots in all trench drains and round area drains. To achieve a Gold Standard of flood protection, ensure that 100% of the grate apertures are free of Granulated-Organic-Mulch and pine needles; a grate that is 50% blocked will cause water to bridge over the drain and flow directly into the home's sliding glass doors. Conduct the Catch-Basin-Sump-Clearance: unscrew the grates and use a high-powered shop-vac to remove the accumulated silt, sand, and heavy rocks from the Sump (the bottom of the basin). If this sediment reaches the level of the exit pipe, it creates a Hydraulic-Dam that stops all flow. Perform the High-Velocity-Slug-Flush-Protocol: insert a garden hose with a Jet-Nozzle into the drainage pipe and run it for 5 minutes. If you identify a Back-Puff of water or air, you have a Downstream-Obstruction caused by root-intrusion or a collapsed 4-inch corrugated pipe. **CRITICAL: Discharge-Point-Pop-Up-Emitter-Scan.** Locate the exit point of the drainage system (usually at the street curb or a Bubbler-Pot in the yard). Ensure the pop-up lid is not Turf-Locked or buried under 3 inches of silt. A blocked exit point turns the entire drain line into a Stagnant-Reservoir that breeds mosquitoes and prevents drainage during a storm. Finalize the audit by applying a dab of Anti-Seize-Lubricant to the stainless-steel grate screws to prevent Galling-and-Seizure in the plastic tracks. Record the Flash-Flush-Status in your master structural log.
Check the Drain-Capacity. Standard 4-inch round drains are often insufficient for large patio areas. For a Gold Standard setup, replace localized round drains with High-Flow-Micro-Trench-Drains featuring Removable-Debris-Baskets. These professional-grade systems provide a 300% larger Catchment-Area and capture organic debris before it enters the underground piping, making maintenance 5x faster and virtually eliminating the risk of deep-line blockages.
