Begin the specialized Low-Voltage-Power-Distribution-Audit by performing a Thermal-and-Inductive-Load-Analysis of all landscape lighting transformers. The primary objective is to verify that these Step-Down power units are not operating at a Critical-Overload state, as a transformer forced to push current beyond its engineered VA (Volt-Amp) rating will experience internal laminar-vibration, insulation-breakdown, and eventually a catastrophic electrical fire. Start by performing the Wattage-Summation-Protocol: walk the entire property and record the wattage of every individual light fixture on the circuit. To achieve a Gold Standard of operational efficiency, apply the 80-Percent-De-Rating-Rule: a 300-VA transformer should never be loaded with more than 240 watts of total lighting; this safety margin accounts for Inrush-Current and Voltage-Drop across long wire runs.
